Induction Skull Melt (ISM)
Classical refractory induction melting of reactive metals, such as titanium and zirconium, has been unsuccessfully attempted. Refractory lined induction furnaces do not resist attack by reactive metals. Metalwerks has built a uniquely capable induction skull melting furnace that combines the best elements of induction melting with the necessary water cooled copper crucible technology needed for reactive metals. Our 85 kilogram induction skull furnace allows us to melt reactive alloys, nitinol alloys, and a host of other alloys with unparalleled purity and homogeneity.
In addition to reactive metals, the ISM can melt aluminides, superalloys, or developmental compositions. Investment castings or static pour ingots can also be produced in this furnace.
